Matthew Miles is a London-based artist working primarily in digital imagery. The starting point of all his works is the moving image. He says: “I tend to see instances of duality without really looking for them. From there, I try to focus on the space between contrasting ideas or forces; between past and future or staying and going. And then you see there isn’t space but something being torn in two.
Film and video is where I always start. The medium is great for extracting moments of transition from the gap between frames. It’s great for lying and telling the truth. From the moving images I capture I make films or series of digital stills; sometimes combing them in installation. At the moment all my work is silent.”
