Henna Vainio (b. 1981) is a Finnish artist based in London. She holds a BA in Fine Art Sculpture from Chelsea College of Arts London, and a MFA in Fine Art from the Slade School of Fine Art. Recent exhibitions include Stanzas, OUTPOST, Norwich 2014, Bearing Traits, Pracownia Potretu, Lodz, 2014, Points of Contact, No Format, London, 2014 and Associate Members Show, Limbo, Margate, 2014.
In her work Vainio is drawn to different qualities and textures of something everyday that she recreates through casting and multiplying in different materials. The usage of basic things we eat like peanuts, cabbage leaves etc. in their remaking as sculptural objects show the humour and absurdity of such an ordinary thing, which can seem so curious only because it has been remade, or given a ‘role’.
