Pisano, born in Sardinia, Italy has always been interested in drawing and painting. After regular studies he decided to join the “Accademia di Belle Arti” where he gained a diploma in Fine Arts. He decided to come to England in 1996 and has lived in London since. Coming from an Italian background he could not help being connected with the so many classical masterpieces, which he is aware of when developing his technical skills. His paintings are prepared in a fairly traditional way, since he is conscious of the process of “the art of painting”.
Traditional Painting gave him the opportunity to test his skills with themes that are so often explored and yet always ready to be re-explored in an original and completely new way. To engage the viewer’s eye he paints emotionally charged, melodramatic images, and in order to do so makes extensive use of dark tenebrism (derived from the Latin tenebrae, meaning darkness). Shapes emerge from a deep black background, ‘Light’ gives way to ‘Shadow’, the end of Knowledge, the place where mystery irresistibly excites the mind with the suggestion of the unknown. Through recognizable and naturalistic form these oil paintings with their inner quality of transparency and depth, point to something hidden, beyond the superficial appearance. Pisano wants his paintings to make powerful visuals statements; creations filled with a presence that a spectator can not ignore.
